News

Hello once again.

Another couple of months has passed. The years just seem to fly by.

What is new in the world of Carlton Ware?

John Masters exhibition back in June was a great success. Lots of Carlton Ware collectors attended and enjoyed the delights he was showing and were able to chat to him about how he started, where he went and where he is going.

The weekend of 11th and 12th August found a group of us in Scotland. First of all we visited the Ingliston Antique and Decorative Art fair at Scotlands showground in Edinburgh. Some of us found a few items but unfortunately the fair is not what it used to be (but then where is!!).

On the Sunday we arrived at Douggie's place to check out his new finds for his collection and enjoy a really sumptuous starter and main meal produced by his wife Sandra. Luckily the weather was kind and we managed to sit outside in the garden.

Douggie's collection has changed over the years but is still predominantely Chinoiserie with some very unusual pieces to look at and handle. There was much chat about Carlton Ware and what was going on before we moved just a short trip up the road to Heather & Terry's where Heather had continued the baking bug set up by Sandra and produced a table full of desserts which were enjoyed by all.

Terry has a completely different collecting field to Douggie with the nucleus being Art Deco, but he does have an interest in the motor vehicle which he has taken to Carlton Ware with a collection of motor related items such as the crested vehicles.

Terry gave us a great insight into the history of his house and how he is continuing the restoration work to preserve the building for future generations.

One of the attendee's Jane brought along some of her collection of toastracks. These were thoroughly looked at by all and a small talk on some of the more unusual ones was given.

This is what is so great about Carlton Ware get togethers. You can meet some like minded people and chat about your favourite subject. It is also great that the group had no qualms about anyone handling the pieces on show even though some were quite valuable.

We are all looking forward to the next meeting where ever it may be.
